You see, every March and April, the Greater Panama Beach City area hosts thousands of high school and college students for some wild times. This city has earned the nickname of the “Spring Break Capital of the World.” But for those other 10 months, Panama Beach offers something for everyone: beautiful beaches, pulse-pounding water and land-based activities, ample shopping, delicious cuisine, luxurious accommodations, and of course, amazing attractions.
There’s so much to do here, the only question is where to start? On this page, we’ve provided a select few of those activities, destinations and events that define Panama Beach, Florida. 1.) Hit the Beach
Panama Beach City is known far and wide for having the “World’s Most Beautiful Beaches.” The truth is, this city more than lives up to that name. In 2000, the Surfrider Foundation, a global organization dedicated to the protection of the planet’s oceans and beaches, selected Panama City Beach as the nation’s third “ Most Healthy Urban Beach.” Then, in 2001, the Travel Channel ranked Panama City, FL”s beach as the nation’s 10 th best. Today, this city’s 27 miles of coastline offer dazzling white, powdery soft sands, sparkling, emerald green waters, balmy breezes and ample amenities. Travelers to Panama Beach City are greeted by irresistible activities, including volleyball, sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling and diving, parasailing, jet-skiing, and fishing. St. Andrews State Park, a 1,260-acre park, is considered one of Panama Beach and Florida’s leading outdoor recreation spots. This park features lush greenery, sand dunes, fresh- and saltwater marshes, a lagoon swimming area, hiking trails, scenic beaches and two campgrounds.
2.) Shopping at Pier Park
Shopping abounds in Panama Beach City, and there may be no better site than Pier Park, an open-air mall, a dining and entertainment complex, the largest in Northwest Florida. Here, you’ll find popular national chains and local Panama Beach favorites. Among the shops and restaurants located within are Ron Jon Surf Shop, Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, JCPenney, Starbucks, Target Panera Bread, Olive Garden, Baja Grill and a 16-screen, 3,000-seat movie theater complex.
3.) Shipwreck Island Waterpark
Since 1983, Shipwreck Island Waterpark, a family-friendly, 20-acre destination, has drawn thousands of travelers of all ages. Among the many events and attributes found within are: a 500,000-gallon wave pool, the “White Knuckle River,” a 660-foot long winding inner tube ride, the “ Pirate’s Plunge Racing Slide,” side-by-side plunging slides, a realistic replica of a 17 th Century sailing ship, and many activities geared towards younger visitors.
